Ali’i Builders is a local, Hawai’ian-born company, with a unique team of individuals who come from diverse backgrounds from all over the country.  The family like atmosphere enables employees to merge professional aspirations and talents as an accomplished construction company. At Ali’i Builders , “Commitment to Excellence” is the heart of what we do and nowhere is it more important or seen more clearly than during the construction phase of a project. Throughout construction, our team coordinates, manages, and supervises all activities to ensure that each project is completed safely, professionally, and built in accordance with your satisfaction of the end product.

NATHAN HENDRICKS, Principal/Owner

Nathan Malo Hendricks (Nate) left his lifelong Island of Hawaii home at the age of 17 to serve four years in the U.S. Army as a light-wheeled vehicle mechanic. Upon his return, at the age of 21, he started in construction as an apprentice carpenter for three years. This was followed by four years working as an accomplished journeyman carpenter and then, as a superintendent. After seven years in the trade, he applied for and received his State of Hawaii Professional General Contractor’s license in the year of 1993. His Contractor’s beginnings started as a “one guy Contractor, working from the back of a truck”, with a checkbook that was his accounting system. He continued to work as a Contractor/Carpenter and found himself drawn to the complex and fascinating work of high-end custom homes. With a keen eye to the detail and design, Nate developed the passion for building and creating. In 2001, Nate changed from a sole proprietor and established Ali’i Builders LLCAli’i Builders has successfully completed over $170 million in construction projects. Nate chose the name Ali’i Builders for the significance of the Hawaiian word “ali’i” that refers to a chief or noble. In traditional times, the ali’i had the responsibilities of contributing to the welfare of the people and the āina (land). To this day, Ali’i Builders is steadfast in its responsibility for the wellbeing of their employees and the āina, ensuring that our projects are built with only the highest standard craftsmanship and quality. Nate’s knowledge in the construction industry has been gained through first-hand experience in the field and on jobsites. It was there he learned and gained the respect for hard-working men and women. Today Ali’i Builders employs over 30 men and women and continues to grow. As the Principal and Owner, Nate promotes and maintains a healthy company culture that incorporates the collective values, beliefs, and principles of Ali’i Builders. Nate is personally involved in all the major decisions in the company and its focus on accomplishing successful client satisfaction and a quality-built product.

EARL "LINNY" COX, JR., Construction Contract Manager
Earl Linwood Cox Jr. (Linny) is a General Contractor who started his career as a project manager in the space and defense industry. Since transitioning to the construction industry, Linny has worked in the world’s famous Kūki‘o and Hualalai resorts on prominent residential and resort owned projects. His has the vast amount of experience in development and implementation of projects on large, multi-phased hospitality, residential and commercial projects. Linny works together with clients, design professionals and project related personnel on coordination, scheduling and implementation of the project details to build a successful project.
NATHAN BATAILLE, Project Manager
With a career spanning over 16 years in the construction industry, Nate B. is a seasoned professional who has successfully led teams on projects across different countries. His project experience encompasses a wide range of sizes and scopes, including everything from a biotech campus in California to high-rise buildings and commercial centers in China, as well as luxury resorts. Nathan's connection with the built environment began at an early age when he worked as a carpenter on construction sites. He pursued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Idaho and achieving the highest graduate honor for his Master of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute in New York. Nathan is dedicated to ensuring that our clients' designs not only meet but exceed their expectations and aspirations. He has a genuine passion for creating structures that encourage understanding and inspiration. Leveraging his extensive experience and strong collaborative skills, Nathan is committed to delivering successful projects from conception to completion.

DAYNA GAMBILL, Project Manager
Dayna grew up in Waimea on the beautiful island of Hawaii. After graduating with Cum Laude honors from Honoka’a High School, Dayna pursued her education in the mainland graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She was named 2020-2021 Project Manager of the Year earning world class client experience builds. Dayna’s passion for constructing spans 12 years and counting. Dayna’s diverse experience through the construction industry ranges from Superintending, Project Management and Restoration Building Consultant on commercial, properties, specializing in high end luxury renovations and one of a kind luxury custom home builds throughout Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Newport Beach and Kailua Kona.

Dayna leads construction teams serving as Project Manager, overseeing every aspect of the project from start to finish. One of her favorite quotes is “How you do anything is how you do everything”.

She volunteers with the Alex and Duke DeRego foundation,  an enrichment program educating our youth about Water Safety & Ocean Awareness. The mission of the Alex and Duke De Rego Foundation is to empower young people in Hawaii with valuable water safety and emergency lifesaving knowledge. They do this by partnering with schools and other organizations to provide hands-on training for hundreds of children annually. They believe that even one life lost to unpreparedness near the ocean, or the lack of First Aid / CPR is one life too many.
LINDA SZASZ, Sr. Project Engineer
BRANDON HATCHETT, Project Engineer

As a Project Engineer, Brandon contributes to the team by completing any all tasks necessary to ensure completion of our projects. Diverse and all encompassing, his duties range from product procurement to site investigation, sub coordination, quality assurance, takeoffs and more. His responsibilities are expansive and for that reason he is becoming very well-rounded gaining experience in many aspects of construction management.

Brandon graduated with a Degree in Architecture from Lehigh University while also becoming a 2x NCAA Division 1 All-American and National Finalist. Most of his career was spent as a Junior Architect designing commercial, retail, and restaurant spaces for major brands nationally. Brandon competed on the U.S. Olympic ladder in wrestling and currently uses those skills to coach local kids in all forms of grappling (Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Judo and Greco Roman).

JOEL FROESE, JR., Superintendent

Joel is a dedicated member of the Ali'i Builders family, serving the vibrant community of the Big Island of Hawaii. With a humble yet steadfast approach, Joel has contributed across various management and supervision roles, including as a Project Engineer and Junior Superintendent. He's known for his diligent work ethic and collaborative spirit, always striving to foster a harmonious team environment. Joel's commitment to timely project completion is matched only by his dedication to supporting his colleagues. He embodies the values of integrity and hard work that define Ali'i Builders, making him an invaluable asset to our team.

 

KAEO’OKALANI JONES, JR., Superintendent

Kaeo Jones is our Commercial Construction Superintendent, bringing a strong foundation of experience with over 25 years in the construction industry. Kaeo has various State of Hawaii licenses as a General Contractor, a Specialty Contractor (structural steel), and an Excavating and Grading Contractor, including holding an Unlimited Certified Welding certification. He has completed various commercial projects ranging from $300,000 for accessibility improvement to $11 million. This wide experience has resulted in strong expertise in occupied commercial projects, including fire stations, steel structures, warehouses and retail spaces, infrastructure, and complex remodels. Kaeo is well-versed in the unique challenges and solutions required to work within commercial building industry.

 

ROB STOUGH, Senior Superintendent

Robert Stough has been in the construction industry for over 35 years. As a Superintendent, Rob manages projects from the start of construction through completion. Rob has the ability to work with owners, developers, design professionals, code officials and sub-contractors which gives him the necessary traits to complete projects in a timely fashion and on budget. Rob understands the challenges and what it takes to successfully build in Hawaii’s construction industry. He is strong leader, pro-active and performs well under pressure. Rob currently holds a General Contractor License B & C #35527. With his passion for building custom homes and specialty construction, Ali’i Builders is honored to have him on our team for the past 21 years and into the future.

TESSA ANGELEO, Main Office Manager
Tessa has many years of experience in the construction-accounting industry. She is Ali’i Builders Accounts Receivable and Contracts Specialist that collaborates closely with clients and project personnel to ensure the submission and collection of our accounts receivable invoices and AIA Pay Applications are completed in an accurate, organized, and timely manner. Tessa has worked with several accounting systems and software databases that makes her well rounded and proficient in her division of Ali’i Builders. Tessa is an enthusiastic canoe padder and is board member of the Hawai’i Island Paddlesports Association. Tessa’s knowledge base, work ethic, and positive outlook that makes her an excellent addition to the Team.
